When you need to determine why a domain uses a direct connection or proxy, this information is more useful than a simple on/off switch.

Its interface has more layers than a basic client, so setup difficulty is rated medium. During the first installation, avoid changing settings one by one without a plan: import the subscription, confirm rule mode and the proxy group, then enable the system proxy. Test TUN only if an application cannot be routed through the system proxy. Linux users should distinguish the desktop package from the mihomo core file: the former provides the GUI, while the latter is mainly intended for command-line or service deployments.

FlClash

FlClash supports Windows, macOS, Android, and Linux, making it a good fit for users who combine computers with Android devices. Its interface organization is fairly consistent across platforms, so once familiar, it is easier to find configurations, proxy groups, and basic settings. Compared with desktop-only clients, it reduces the need to rediscover equivalent features on mobile.

Cross-platform support does not mean identical system behavior everywhere. Android routes traffic through the system VPN interface; desktop systems usually start with the system proxy, while Linux may also be affected by the desktop environment and permission model. With the same subscription, check DNS, bypass rules, and background restrictions separately on each platform. If your device mix includes iOS, include Clash Plus in the comparison because FlClash does not support iOS.

Clash Nyanpasu

Clash Nyanpasu targets the Windows desktop and suits users who manage multiple configurations, frequently switch proxy groups, or monitor client runtime status. It overlaps considerably with Clash Verge Rev; the differences are more about interface organization and workflow than a simple checklist of available features. For a meaningful comparison, import the same test configuration into both and see whether the proxy-group hierarchy, log access, and frequently used switches feel intuitive.

If a Windows user only needs to import a subscription and enable the system proxy, Clash Plus offers a more direct learning path. If profile management and a desktop administration interface matter more, continue comparing Nyanpasu. During testing, do not let two clients control the system proxy at once or start multiple TUN interfaces; this can cause proxy-port conflicts and make the traffic path difficult to diagnose.

Clash for Windows

No longer maintained

Clash for Windows is the desktop client used by many older tutorials and follows the original Clash core. Interface labels such as Profiles, Proxies, and General still appear in legacy documentation, giving it reference value for understanding old procedures and migrating older configurations. Since the project is no longer maintained, familiarity with the interface no longer offsets the long-term compatibility and maintenance risks.

When migrating an existing setup, save the subscription URL and any necessary custom rules first, then re-import them into Clash Plus, Clash Verge Rev, or Clash Nyanpasu. Do not overwrite a new client by copying the entire application directory. Original Clash and mihomo handle some configuration fields differently, so after migration check the number of proxy groups, rule-provider loading results, and DNS behavior. New users have no reason to build their workflow around an archived client.

Clash Meta for Android

Clash Meta for Android is a Meta client for Android, focused on subscription imports, configuration switching, proxy-group selection, and system VPN routing. It suits Android users who already understand Clash fundamentals and want direct access to Meta configuration capabilities. Unlike desktop systems, Android displays a system VPN authorization prompt, and connection behavior can also be affected by battery optimization, background restrictions, and other VPN apps.

If another VPN, network filter, or local firewall is already running on the phone, stop conflicting apps before testing. After importing the subscription, first confirm that the configuration loads successfully, then choose a proxy group and start the connection; finally test the browser and frequently used apps separately. If you want a similar workflow on computer and phone, compare Clash Plus or FlClash instead. For Android-only users familiar with Meta configuration, CMFA is the more direct fit.

Surfboard

Surfboard is an Android rule-based proxy client with an independent implementation that supports common Clash configuration syntax. It suits users familiar with proxy groups, rule order, and how mobile VPN routing works. Unlike clients built directly around the mihomo core, configuration compatibility does not mean every extension field will behave identically.

When importing an existing configuration, pay particular attention to proxy protocols, rule providers, DNS settings, and script-based extensions. The fact that basic domain rules and proxy groups appear does not mean advanced fields are being applied as expected. For new users, Clash Plus or Clash Meta for Android is usually easier to verify; users willing to read the configuration and validate each item can consider Surfboard as another Android implementation.

ClashX Meta

No longer maintained

ClashX Meta targets macOS and uses the menu bar as its primary control surface, making it convenient for switching the system proxy, mode, and proxy group. It retains the lightweight workflow familiar from ClashX-style clients, which may feel natural to longtime macOS users. However, the project is no longer maintained, so treat it as an archived client rather than the default choice for a new macOS installation.

When migrating to Clash Plus, Clash Verge Rev, or FlClash, record the subscription URL, bypass rules, and local settings worth preserving before restoring them one by one. The macOS system proxy and TUN are different traffic-routing methods; do not leave the old client's background process running after migration. If the menu bar still shows the old proxy state, quit the old client and confirm in macOS network settings that the proxy entries have been restored.

Identify your device platforms

List the devices you actually use instead of expanding the scope for platforms you might use later. If you only use Windows, compare Windows clients; if you also use iOS, eliminate options without an iOS version first. Platform filtering can often cut the candidate list in half immediately.
